I recently moved to New Brunswick for my summer internship!

I'm excited to spend an East Coast summer surrounded by exciting technologies and new experiences. For the move, my family helped me drive across provinces, and we decided to turn it into a multi-day road trip.

Day 1

We started early in the morning and first stopped at Queen's University in Kingston, ON. I was honestly pretty hangry and ready to get going, but it was nice seeing the limestone buildings again. We then drove to Ottawa to help some of my siblings move. We did a bit of sightseeing and grabbed Korean food for dinner.

Day 2

A lot of packing and cleaning later, we all squeezed into the minivan with Vi's music blasting and Chinese snacks to share as we drove toward Quebec City. We arrived at the hotel pretty late into the night, and I immediately passed out.

Day 3

Vi and I strolled around Quebec City early in the morning. I picked up a postcard for my collection and later joined my parents to walk around Old Quebec. We had crepes at Au Petit Coin Breton. Before the final drive to New Brunswick, we grabbed poke bowls and coffee for the road.

I drove the last stretch and ended up staying the night in my parents' hotel room after seeing the state of my summer housing. I was genuinely pretty overwhelmed, and I really owe it to my parents for helping me find better accommodations. I'm currently obsessed with my new home for the next four months and its beachy, crunchy-inspired decor.

Day 4

One of the greatest pleasures in life is a continental breakfast. And on Day 4, I got to experience that bliss yet again. I never actually like most of the selection, but something about the variety makes me feel so powerful.

I picked up some cleaning supplies and house essentials from Dollarama and Walmart before driving to my work office in the French Fry Capital of the World. A nearby farmers' market was selling local jams, art, and handmade goods. I ended up buying some Soldier and Jacob's Cattle beans, which I recently used in a veggie chili.

Later, we got Thai food. I genuinely don't have words for this place besides the fact that it was really... something else. Between the garden furniture indoors and the extremely spicy yet somehow unflavoured food, it felt like the kind of place you can only fully appreciate in person.

To end the day, we grabbed bar food at the River Restaurant. It was the perfect cap to a wonderful day. I had just secured my dream housing, and things were finally starting to turn around.

Day 5

I started the day with another continental breakfast. I picked up groceries and some hardcore bug spray from Walmart, and we had to stop at the world's longest covered bridge. Who knew New Brunswick would be world-renowned on multiple fronts?

I then drove my family and me to Fredericton, where we walked around the city a bit. After a quick stop for sandwiches, I dropped them off at the airport. Work was starting the very next day, so I spent the evening unpacking the rest of my things, prepping breakfast, steaming my outfit, and eventually dozing off.

Since then, a couple of weeks have passed, and I'm glad to have finally found a home here. Being surrounded by a community of coworkers — especially other interns — completely changed my perspective. Recently, I was driving back from a hike during sunset, and seeing the New Brunswick landscape bathed in orange light with the perfect music playing just made this feeling of pure joy wash over me.

I definitely can't discuss my work, but so far I'm blown away by the internship program. I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with and learn from such knowledgeable industry experts.
